Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Dog Policy

When do we have to start having dogs on-leash within 100 feet of the main parking lot?  The ordinances are in the process of being approved and will most likely take effect by early summer 2008.  Signs will be posted in the parking lot and distances will be marked.  Additional information will be posted in the park bulletin board.

Why are we asking park users to leash their dogs in the parking lot area?  The parking lot is busy and only getting busier. This is where park users congregate and become distracted. Most incidents occur (bites, dogs defecating, etc...) in the main parking lot.

Do dogs have to be on leash outside of the main parking lot in Sewickley Heights Borough Park?  No, but according to Pennsylvania State Law, your dog(s) must be UNDER control at all times.  This means within your sight and under voice command, and, if necessary, leashed.

Is it true, I will need a permit to walk my dog off-leash in Sewickley Heights Borough Park? – An off-leash dog permit policy is currently in development and the borough hopes to adopt the ordinances for this policy by early next year.

Where can I find updated information about Sewickley Borough Park Policies?  Notices will be posted on the park bulletin board and on the borough website at http://www.sewickleyheightsboro.com/
