Sewickley Heights Borough Park Rules, Regulations and Trail Etiquette
WELCOME
to
the Sewickley Heights Borough Park. The undeveloped fields and woods
are managed for conservation, education and recreation purposes. They
afford the visitor an opportunity to enjoy many aspects of nature in a
relaxed and peaceful setting. Please help us to preserve its attributes
by following these rules and guidelines.
~ Stay
on the marked trails!
Most of the trails in the park are designated multi-use. Please stay
out of woods and unmarked areas for your safety and others. This will
also ensure the preservation of the flora and fauna that we need to
protect.
~ Use open trails only!
Trails may be temporarily closed for a variety of reasons and trail
users should respect all closures.
~ Leave
no trace or leave it better than you found it!
Please carry out or dispose of all trash brought into the park and help
keep it a beautiful place.
~Be
aware!
Please be sensitive to the terrain beneath you. Recognize different
types of soil and trail construction. Not all trails will be suitable
for all uses at all times. Wet and muddy trails are more vulnerable to
damage.
~Park
cars on designated road surfaces only!
Please do not park on grass or soft surfaces that damages park property.
~
Prohibited activities
include campfires, littering, swimming (including dogs), disorderly
conduct, vandalism and removal or damage to trees, plants, animals,
flowers and habitat. Please protect our environment. No off-road
motorized vehicles (ATVs) are permitted!
~Park Permits
– visiting groups of 10 or more require a borough permit and an
appropriate fee. To obtain a park permit please call the borough office
at 412-741-5119.
~ Hunting
- The park is not open to the
public for hunting at any time. Hunting is only conducted by groups
that are sanctioned by the Borough of Sewickley Heights.
There are a variety of visitors who enjoy this wonderful setting and
appreciate using it together. Here are a few tips on “who” and “how to”
so we can enjoy it together.
~Hikers
are a diverse group of people who come to the park to enjoy exercise in
an outdoor setting. They are responsible for staying on designated
trails. Dispose of all trash in cans provided by the park which are
conveniently illustrated on the park map. Hikers should yield to and be
respectful of equestrians and bikers for the safety of all.
~Bikers,
whether looking for a recreational ride or a more challenging experience
need to operate at safe speeds and be respectful of designated trails,
the terrain, people and animals.
~Equestrians
are horseback riders. They should ride on designated trails with a safe
and respectful attitude. Horses can be unpredictable and hikers and
bikers should yield to them. Dogs need to be controlled with leashes
when approaching horses.
